Agricultural cooperation between China and Africa holds significant importance for the mutual development of Africa and the world, as well as the achievement of the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
Promoting agricultural development in Africa: China-Africa agricultural cooperation can help African countries improve agricultural productivity, promote agricultural development and modernization, and enhance the yield and quality of agricultural products, thereby stimulating economic growth in Africa.
Strengthening South-South cooperation: China-Africa agricultural cooperation serves as a model for South-South cooperation, providing valuable experiences that other southern countries can learn from. It also facilitates cooperation among developing countries on the basis of mutual benefit, promoting deeper and broader South-South cooperation.
Advancing the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals: China-Africa agricultural cooperation prioritizes sustainable development. By enhancing local agricultural production standards and strengthening environmental protection, it contributes to the realization of the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in areas such as poverty reduction, zero hunger, health and well-being, quality education, and climate action.
Expanding international cooperation: China-Africa agricultural cooperation attracts the participation of international organizations, African governments, agricultural enterprises, and various stakeholders, thereby expanding the scope of international cooperation and advancing the development of global multilateralism. It also lays a solid foundation for the development of China-Africa relations.
Promoting the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI): China-Africa agricultural cooperation is an integral part of the BRI. It not only promotes agricultural development in countries along the Belt and Road, but also enhances exchange, cooperation, and common development among these countries.
In the future, China-Africa agricultural cooperation can be further developed through the following efforts: establishing long-term cooperative mechanisms, strengthening cooperation in modern agricultural technologies, scientific innovation, and production management to propel both China and Africa towards agricultural modernization and improve production efficiency and yield; enhancing agricultural infrastructure construction to provide better support for agricultural development by improving infrastructure conditions; fostering talent development and exchange in the agricultural field to enhance technical and managerial capabilities, ensuring the sustainability of cooperation; strengthening policy coordination and support by providing facilitation and preferential policies in trade, investment, and taxation, promoting agricultural trade and market cooperation, enhancing the international competitiveness of Chinese and African agricultural products, expanding agricultural trade channels, and promoting the internationalization and branding of agricultural products; reinforcing risk management and security guarantees to ensure the safety and risk control of agricultural cooperation; enhancing information exchange and cooperation by establishing an information system for China-Africa agriculture, driving the development of China-Africa agricultural cooperation in deeper and broader domains.
